tips for parents

Dear Parents,

The well-being of our children is very important to us. Once a week, a fully licensed doctor visits us to see whether any of our children require medical support. Our school nurses at each TCG are present during every school day, from when the children arrive until the school day ends. She cares for injured children by administering first aid, helps children when they are feeling unwell and administers any prescribed medication that your child might require.

Our nurses stock a variety of over-the-counter medications such as Calpol, Brufen, creams and gels for minor complaints, and products for cleaning minor injuries.  However, before any medication can be administered, we need our parents to sign a consent form and will contact parents prior to administering any oral medications. Kindly note that we are not able to administer any medication if we do not have a signed consent form.

If your child is taking any regular medication, either long or short term, this medication will be administered by the nurse. Please hand the medication directly to your school nurse, clearly marked with name, time and dosage required, including personal inhalers to prevent or treat an asthma attack. We cannot allow children to keep medication in their bags.

If a child is severely unwell and has to be picked up, we will immediately inform the parents or guardian.

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home so that they can rest and recover, and also to ensure the illness is not spread at school.

Please keep your child at home if the following applies:
Vomiting and/or Diarrhoea
Please only have your child return to school if they are symptom free for 48 hours after being diagnosed.
Temperature of 37.8° Celsius plus
Conjunctivitis
Sore Throat
Rashes
Coughs and Colds
Childhood Illnesses
If my child is sick, who should I inform?
